📰 Market Headlines

Markets notched weekly wins on Friday as the Dow inched closer to its first record of the year, with major indexes weathering mixed economic signals and rate-cut uncertainty.
The Dow crept up 0.08%, the S&P 500 slipped 0.3%, and the Nasdaq dropped 0.4% after Trump announced semiconductor tariffs could arrive as soon as next week.
Terawulf $WULF is up almost 90% over the past 5 days, and it saw a huge amount of positive news just this morning—potentially setting it up to climb even higher in markets today. Here’s the rundown:
Google increased its stake in TeraWulf to 14%
Terawulf upped its total contracted capacity to 360+ MW of critical IT load
The company plans to offer $400 million of convertible senior notes in a private offering to institutional buyers
Tesla, Micron, and Applovin are all presenting potential buy ranges, according to analyst Ed Carson:
$TSLA looks like it's forming a potential cup and handle (his target entry @ $348.98). Carson raises the point that Tesla traders must rely on technical analysis, as earnings are set to fall for the 3rd year in a row. See AltIndex’s technical analysis of Tesla to compare.
$MU is forming another possible cup and handle formation—look for a target entry of $128.60 for confirmation, according to Carson.
And $APP cleared what seems to be a cup base last week—setting up for a high-handle entry point of $473.70 (which also functions as a “traditional handle to a broader six-month consolidation,” according to Carson).
Novo Nordisk $NVO popped 5% on news of its drug Wegovy gaining approval for use as a liver treatment. This is the first GLP-1 drug to be used for metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) treatment.
Fed Chair Jerome Powell is set to give a market-defining speech of the year at Jackson Hole this Friday. Markets will be waiting with baited breath, as this annual speech is typically where Powell announces large changes in the Fed’s economic thinking for the year ahead. Leading up to the speech, markets have the odds of a September rate cut at about 83%.
Retail giants could cause turbulence or smooth sailing this week with incoming earnings from Home Depot, Lowe’s, Target, and Walmart. Investors are particularly interested in seeing how tariffs have affected them over the past three months. For context, 82% of S&P 500 companies who already reported this quarter have beaten Wall Street’s expectations (FactSet).
